Find Air Leaks

Hold a lit incense stick near windows, doors, outlets, and recessed lights. If the smoke moves horizontally, air is leaking.

Check Insulation

Attic insulation should be 12-15 inches deep (R-38 to R-49 in most climates). If you can see the floor joists, you need more.

Inspect Ductwork

Feel along duct joints for escaping air. Seal with mastic and foil tape.

Window Check

Single-pane windows lose 10x more heat than insulated walls. If replacement isn't in the budget, use window film kits ($3-$5 per window).
