Gutter Cleaning Guide

Gutter Cleaning Guide

When to Clean

At least twice a year — late spring (after pollen and seeds) and late fall (after leaves). More often if you have overhanging trees.

Steps

  1. Set up a ladder on stable ground
  2. Scoop debris with a gutter scoop or garden trowel
  3. Flush with a garden hose to check flow
  4. Check that downspouts are clear — water should flow freely
  5. Extend downspouts at least 4-6 feet from the foundation

Gutter Guards

Guards reduce cleaning frequency but don't eliminate it. Micro-mesh guards work best. Expect to pay $5-$10 per linear foot installed.
