What to Do When a Breaker Trips
Steps
- Go to your electrical panel
- Find the tripped breaker — it will be in the middle position, not fully ON or OFF
- Flip it fully to OFF first
- Then flip it to ON
If It Trips Again
Unplug everything on that circuit and try again. If it stays on, plug things back in one at a time to find the overloaded device.
Never Do This
- Never replace a breaker with a higher-amp one — the wires will overheat
- Never hold a breaker in the ON position
- Never ignore a breaker that trips repeatedly
