How to Winterize Your Irrigation System

Steps

  1. Turn off the water supply to the irrigation system
  2. Set the controller to "off" or "rain" mode
  3. Blow out the lines with compressed air (40-50 PSI max)
  4. Drain the backflow preventer
  5. Insulate the backflow preventer and above-ground pipes

Failing to winterize can crack pipes, valves, and the backflow preventer — costing $500+ to repair in spring.
