Tree Trimming Near Your House

Tree Trimming Near Your House

The 10-Foot Rule

Keep tree branches at least 10 feet from your roof. Overhanging branches drop leaves in gutters, provide roof access for pests, and can cause damage in storms.

DIY vs Pro

  • DIY: Branches you can reach from the ground with a pole pruner (under 3 inches diameter)
  • Pro: Anything near power lines, above 15 feet, or large limbs. Tree work is dangerous.

Best time to trim: late winter when trees are dormant.
