When to Use Carbon Air Filters vs Standard

When to Use Carbon Air Filters vs Standard

Standard Pleated Filters (MERV 8-13)

Remove dust, pollen, pet dander, and mold spores. Sufficient for most homes.

Carbon (Activated Charcoal) Filters

Remove odors, VOCs, and chemical fumes. Useful near highways, in new construction (off-gassing), or homes with smokers.

HEPA Filters

Remove 99.97% of particles. Most home HVAC systems cannot handle HEPA — they restrict airflow too much. Use standalone HEPA air purifiers instead.
