How to Clean Your AC Condenser Coils

How to Clean Your AC Condenser Coils

Why It Matters

Dirty condenser coils reduce cooling efficiency by up to 30% and can cause the compressor to overheat and fail — a $2,000+ repair.

Steps

  1. Turn off the AC at the thermostat and the breaker
  2. Remove the fan grille from the top of the outdoor unit
  3. Use a garden hose to spray the coils from inside out
  4. For heavy buildup, use a coil cleaner spray first
  5. Reassemble and restore power

Do this every spring before cooling season starts.
