How to Fix a Jammed Garbage Disposal

The Allen Wrench Method

  1. Turn off the disposal at the switch AND the breaker
  2. Find the hex socket on the bottom center of the disposal
  3. Insert a 1/4-inch Allen wrench and turn back and forth to free the jam
  4. Press the red reset button on the bottom of the unit
  5. Restore power and test

NEVER put your hand inside the disposal. Use tongs or pliers to remove foreign objects.
