How to Unclog a Drain Without Chemicals

How to Unclog a Drain Without Chemicals

Why Avoid Chemicals

Chemical drain cleaners damage pipes over time, especially older metal pipes. They're also hazardous if they splash.

Method 1: Boiling Water

Pour a full kettle of boiling water directly down the drain. Works for grease clogs.

Method 2: Baking Soda + Vinegar

  1. Pour 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain
  2. Follow with 1/2 cup white vinegar
  3. Cover the drain and wait 30 minutes
  4. Flush with boiling water

Method 3: Drain Snake

A $5 plastic zip-it tool or a drain snake physically removes hair and debris. This is the most effective method for bathroom drains.
