Diagnosing Low Water Pressure

Diagnosing Low Water Pressure

One Fixture or Whole House?

  • One fixture: Clogged aerator or cartridge. Unscrew the aerator, soak in vinegar, clean the screen.
  • Whole house: Check the PRV (pressure reducing valve), main shutoff valve (make sure it's fully open), or call the water company.

Check Your Pressure

Buy a $10 water pressure gauge, attach to a hose bib. Normal is 40-60 PSI. Below 30 is too low; above 80 is too high (and can damage fixtures).
