Well Water System Maintenance

Well Water System Maintenance

Annual Testing

  • Test for bacteria (coliform and E. coli)
  • Test for nitrates
  • Test pH and hardness
  • Additional tests based on local geology (arsenic, radon, etc.)

Well Pump

  • Listen for the pump cycling frequently — may indicate a waterlogged pressure tank
  • Check pressure switch settings (typically 30/50 or 40/60 PSI)
  • Well pumps last 8-15 years

Pressure Tank

Check the air charge annually with a tire gauge. If the tank feels heavy all around (no hollow spot), the bladder has failed — replace it.
